From Military Spouse to Entrepreneur

Maui Hawaii Military Spouse Business

When I started Virgova, I had no idea what a journey it would be. Quite frankly, I was extremely terrified. As a military spouse, I needed a business that I could take with me wherever life led. My husband, an active-duty Coast Guard member, and I were constantly moving around with our fur babies and three kids. The thought of repeatedly starting over with a new job felt like an endless cycle of frustration. That’s when I decided to take control of my future.

With over 10 years of experience in administrative roles, including being a customer service account manager for an airline catering company to serving as a school principal in Guam and holding a Master’s in Business Administration, I dove into research and found my calling: digital marketing. I began my journey with the Savvy System course and started out as a virtual assistant. After a year into the business, I realized that what truly excited me was creativity—telling stories and helping businesses find their voice.

I’ve always been passionate about blogging, photography, and the arts, and I finally combined all my interests. That’s how Virgova was born. It wasn’t just about having a job, it was about building something meaningful, something I could be passionate about and proud of.

The road was not easy, as a homeschooling mom of three, balancing family life with growing a business was tough. The constant juggling of homeschooling, being a single mom when my husband is underway, and entrepreneurship often felt overwhelming. I quickly learned the importance of getting organized.

I started using a planner and setting strict timelines around my most productive hours—right after breakfast and lunch. That was when I could work efficiently without feeling burnt out.

Finding an outlet outside of work and family also became essential. That’s when I discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The focus and creativity I found on the mats provided a mental escape, I didn’t know I needed. I started training BJJ the same year that I decided to start my business and boy it was a journey. Learning a new skill and growing a business at the same time. This helped me so much.

What made this journey even more special was the support of my family. We’ve built a strong, loving family unit, and the fact that we all thrive together, supporting each other through this crazy journey, keeps me going. I couldn’t be more grateful for the happiness and fulfillment they bring into my life.

There have been many key moments in this journey—working with clients from Sweden, Los Angeles, and the Philippines and realizing I could do this on my terms. The most significant turning point came when I decided to fully commit to Virgova. After my last duty station, I knew it was time to leave my part-time jobs as an adjunct professor and concentrate entirely on growing my business.

There’s no looking back now. Watching my clients’ businesses thrive because of the content and strategies we create together fills me with pride. Hearing that their companies are booming is the ultimate reward for all the hard work.

One of my proudest moments was when Virgova was featured for Women in Business on the news. It was a beautiful acknowledgment of the hard work, passion, and resilience that went into building this brand.

The most fulfilling part of Virgova is its constant evolution. After almost three years into this business, I’m still learning and growing both as an entreprenuer and as a person. If there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s the importance of staying organized. Without organization, everything falls apart, just like having a strong foundation is key. There are so many ideas and responsibilities to juggle that it can quickly become overwhelming.

If I could give myself one piece of advice when I first started Virgova, it would be to go for it. Do everything legally and correctly, and trust that you’ll figure out your brand and business in time. It takes time and a lot of self-reflection to get it right. Your business reflects you, but it’s also its own entity. Be patient, humble, and committed to growth.

To me, Virgova isn’t just a business—it’s a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of embracing your passion. While it hasn’t been easy, the journey has been worth every step.
